HOP ON THE BUS! RESERVE 101 TO OFFER FOOD SERVICE FROM JUSTIN TURNER
Monday, 10 October 2011 12:25
Houston whiskey bar Reserve 101 will soon be offering an evening food menu, thanks to an agreement with Bernie’s Burger Bus entrepreneur Justin Turner. No, the bus can’t go downtown: Vehicles with propane cooking equipment are prohibited there.

And don’t expect burgers. Turner and Reserve 101 co-owners Mike Raymond and Steve Long have created a special menu that will debut this fall, with food service available daily from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. closing. “In keeping with our desire to offer something different, we asked Justin to help us come up with a menu that would be simple, delicious and complementary to our Best-in-Region selection of premium whiskeys (nearly 200 brands and counting) and other libations,” Raymond said.

Turner, former Houston Rockets star Shane Battier’s personal chef for seven years (three in Memphis, four in Houston), opened Bernie’s Burger Bus in October 2010. It took the city by storm. The Chicago native’s trademark is great food, made from scratch, using natural ingredients free of chemicals, preservatives and fillers.

‘We share similar philosophies when it comes to food and drink,” Raymond says. “We like to use organic ingredients in our cocktails and infusions—fruits, vegetables, spices, even bacon, steeped in liquor to impart unique flavors. Our food service collaboration with Justin is a match made in heaven.”

“Partnering with Reserve 101 is a great opportunity for me to showcase the style of cooking and types of food I love in a really cool setting,” said Turner. “It’s not just about burgers—great as they are—but about the best, freshest ingredients, hand-crafted right down to the condiments.”

Reserve 101, “not your daddy’s whiskey bar,” is located in the heart of Houston’s EaDo entertainment district at the corner of Caroline and Dallas, next to Dirt Bar and across from House of Blues. Open seven days a week, Reserve 101 features “Happy Hour” Monday through Friday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., with dollar-off beer and wine and half-price Signature Cocktails. The establishment is a celebrity hangout (actor Sean Penn and boxer Oscar de la Hoya, among other sports and entertainment stars) and has a private room for meetings and special events.

Reserve 101 holds complimentary tastings just about every Tuesday, by registration only at http://reserve101.com/whiskey-tastings-houston.

Bernie’s Burger Bus, named in tribute to Turner’s late grandfather, is a converted yellow school bus that moves about the city, mainly in the west side and Montrose areas. Its menu follows the school theme, offering hamburgers such as The Principal, The Substitute, The Bully, Detention and Homeroom that win rave reviews from fans.

“The menu for Reserve 101 is still a secret, but in keeping with the quality and flavor standards Bernie’s Burger Bus fans have come to expect,” said Turner.
