CHIVAS REGAL 12-, 18-, 25-YEAR WHISKEY FEATURED IN RESERVE 101 COMPLIMENTARY TASTING NOV. 1

Luxury Chivas Regal 25 “lost” for nearly 90 years

Downtown whiskey bar Reserve 101 will hold a complimentary tasting of world-renowned Chivas Regal 12-, 18-, and the “lost” 25-year-old vintage of the blended Scotch Whiskey, on Tuesday, Nov. 1, at 6:30 p.m. Space is limited; register in advance at: http://reserve101.com/whiskey-tastings-houston.

Chivas Regal is an icon in the world of blended Scotch whiskey. It was introduced to America as the world’s first luxury 25-year-old blended Scotch whiskey in 1909, and thrived until 1919 when Prohibition shut down the top Chivas market, killing the product. Reintroduced in 2007 by Master Blender Colin Scott, the “lost luxury whiskey” has made a strong comeback.

“Reserve 101’s selection of over 200 premium whiskeys wouldn’t be complete without Chivas Regal,” said the bar’s co-owner, whiskey expert Mike Raymond. “Most Scotch lovers are familiar with Chivas 12 and 18, both great whiskeys, but Chivas 25 is truly something special.”

Chivas Regal dates to 1801, when brothers James and John Chivas opened a food emporium in Aberdeen, Scotland, catering to Europe’s elite. James began putting up casks of fine single malts in the shop’s cellar. In 1843, the brothers received the first of many royal warrants, supplying goods to Queen Victoria. At the time, many whiskeys were un-aged and unrefined. In the 1850s, James became a blending pioneer, mixing single malts from all over Scotland and aging them in oak casks to produce a style pleasing to Europe’s more discerning customers. When a blight attacked French vineyards in the 1880s, supplies of wine, brandy, port and sherry were crippled and drinkers turned to Scotch as an alternative… and Chivas Regal became a sought-after libation. The rest is history.

Reserve 101—“not your daddy’s whiskey bar”—is located at the corner of Caroline and Dallas, next to Dirt Bar and across from House of Blues. The bar has the finest whiskey selection in the nation, with over 200 varieties of popular and small-batch, hard-to-find whiskeys from around the world. It received the “People’s Choice” award from customers for best bar ambiance in this year’s Houston Press “Best of Houston” competition.

Reserve 101 is expanding its whiskey portfolio to 300 brands and plans to offer evening food service later this fall. The neighborhood establishment is also famous for its Signature Cocktails and infusions, organic material steeped in liquor to impart distinctive flavorings.

“Happy Hour,” with dollar-off beers and wines and half-price signature cocktails runs from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday with specials just about every day of the week, including Sundays.
