Reserve 101 will hold the first in a series of classic single malt Scotch complimentary tastings on Tuesday, Oct. 18, at 6:30 p.m., featuring four whiskeys from Diageo, the world’s largest premium spirits business. The tasting series will run on selected Tuesday evenings through November.
Glenkinchie, Singleton, Oban and Lagavulin will be sampled on Oct. 18th. Register to participate at: http://reserve101.com/whiskey-tastings-houston. The tasting will be conducted by Diageo Master of Whiskey Teresa Menendez Myers.
Glenkinchie is one of the few remaining Lowland single malts still in production. The distillery, located in farmland near Edinburgh, was founded around 1825. Lowland whiskeys are fresh and light with notes of lemon, cut grass and peat.
The Lagavulin Distillery dates to 1816, but illicit stills have operated in the area since the 1740s. The small village is located on the southern tip of the Isle of Islay off Scotland’s west coast. Islay Scotches are known for their unique earthy flavor, which comes from drying malted barley over peat fires at the start of the distillation process.
The Oban Distillery, founded in 1794, predates the port town of Oban on the Scottish west coast. One of the smallest distilleries in Scotland with only two pot stills, its West Highland whiskey flavor profile falls between the dry, smoky style of the western islands and the lighter, sweeter Highland malts.
The Singleton, produced at the Auchroisk Distillery, is a Speyside single malt from Scotland’s northeastern region where more than half of its distilleries are located.
“These are single malts that few but the most avid Scotch drinkers have tasted,” said Reserve 101 co-owner and whiskey expert Mike Raymond. “Over the next month and a half, we’ll hold several tastings from Diageo’s Classic Malt line.”
