Three of the leading Irish whiskeys -- Jameson, Bushmills and Knapoggue Castle -- will highlight a complimentary tasting at downtown Houston bar Reserve 101 on Tuesday, June 7, at 6:30 p.m.
“Most whiskey fans are familiar with Jameson and Bushmills Irish Whiskey, but Knapoggue Castle is probably new to them,” said Reserve 101 co-owner and whiskey expert Mike Raymond. “All three are great brands, reflecting the triple-distilling process that marks Irish Whiskey, with interesting histories.”
Jameson Whiskey actually was founded by a Scot, John Jameson, who moved to Dublin to open an Irish Whiskey distillery in the 1770s. The Old Bushmills Distillery bills itself as the oldest surviving legal distillery in the world, having been licensed in 1608 by King James I. Knapoggue has a Texas connection: The dilapidated 15th century castle of that name was restored by Texas architect Lavone Dickensheets Andrews and her husband in the late 1960s.
