Four top-tier Jose Cuervo Tequilas will be in the spotlight at a complimentary tasting on Tuesday, Aug. 2, at 6:30 p.m. at the Reserve 101 whiskey bar in Houston’s EaDo (East Downtown) entertainment district.
Attendees will sample Jose Cuervo Especial Silver, Tradicional Silver, Platino and Reserva de la Familia at the complimentary tasting. Space is limited; registrations may be made at http://reserve101.com/whiskey-tastings-houston.
Especial Silver is the clear, smoother version of Jose Cuervo’s Gold Especial, the world’s best-selling Tequila. Tradicional (“traditional” in English), the Cuervo family’s original Tequila, is aged in oak barrels for a smoother, more refined taste. It’s the number-one reposado (“rested” or oak-barrel-aged) Tequila in Mexico. Platino, a high-tasting-score silver Tequila (96, versus 89 for Patron), is produced from the finest hearts of the Agave plant. Reserva de la Familia, Cuervo’s top Tequila, is based on a secret family recipe divulged only to friends until 1995 when the company began mass producing Reserva.
Jose Antonio Cuervo distilled the world’s first Tequila in 1795 from Blue Agave plants grown on land granted by the King of Spain in 1758, before Mexico became an independent republic. All of the brand’s Tequila is produced in the Central Mexico town of the same name, located in the State of Jalisco. And there’s nary a worm in any Jose Cuervo Tequila bottle—that’s a marketing tactic developed to promote Mezcal, a different spirit entirely.
“For many Tequila fans, Jose Cuervo was the first brand of the Mexican liquor they tried,” says Reserve 101 co-owner and whiskey expert Mike Raymond. “Our tasting will provide an opportunity to discover the subtleties of fine Tequila.”
Reserve 101 is located at the corner of Caroline and Dallas in the heart of Houston’s EaDo District, next to Dirt Bar and across the street from House of Blues. In addition to an extensive whiskey collection (over 180 varieties, largest in the Southwest), the neighborhood bar is also famous for its Signature Cocktails and infusions, organic material steeped in liquor to impart distinctive flavorings.
“Happy Hour,” with dollar-off beers and wines and half-price signature cocktails runs from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday with specials just about every day of the week, including Sundays.
