Tasting Open to Only 25 Guests Here’s a unique gift for Father’s Day: Downtown Houston bar Reserve 101 will hold a special, limited-space complimentary tasting of Johnnie Walker Red, Black, Green and Blue label scotches at 6:30 p.m., on Tuesday, June 21. Reserve 101 is located at the corner of Caroline and Dallas, across from the House of Blues. The complimentary tasting is limited to 25 guests, so registration will be on a first-come-first-served basis at http://reserve101.com/whiskey-tastings-houston. The Johnnie Walker brand dates to 1819, when John Walker’s father Alexander died, leaving his 14-year-old son enough of an inheritance to set him up in a grocery store in Kilmarnock, Scotland. By 1825, business was thriving and John was a successful businessman, selling everything from writing paper to his own Scotch whiskey. John’s son Alexander registered Johnnie Walker’s famous slanted label in 1877 and the brand spread worldwide. Johnnie Walker Red Label is aged over nine years and Black Label (Winston Churchill’s favorite whiskey) is aged 12 years. Johnnie Walker Blue, introduced in 1992, blends a variety of rare single malts. Green Label, introduced in 1997, employs malts without a grain base for a fresher taste. Reserve 101 is located downtown at the corner of Caroline and Dallas, across from House of Blues. The neighborhood bar stocks the best whiskey selection in the region, along with other liquors, beer and wine. It’s also famous for its Signature Cocktails and infusions, organic material steeped in liquor to impart distinctive flavorings. “Happy Hour,” with dollar-off beers and wines and half-price signature cocktails runs from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday with specials just about every day of the week, including Sundays.
