Reserve 101 salutes a Texas original—Shiner Beers—at a complimentary tasting at the downtown Houston bar at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28.

“We like to feature local products whenever possible at our Tuesday Tastings, and Shiner is one of our favorite Texas brews,” said Reserve 101 co-owner and whiskey expert Mike Raymond. “Shiner has done a great job of producing Bavarian beers that stand on their own against those of Southern Germany.”

Shiner Bock is a smooth, full-bodied, richly flavored deep amber beer of a style introduced in 14th Century Germany in the town of Einbeck. Bavarian pronunciation corrupted the town’s name to “ein Bock,” meaning “a billy goat,” and breweries such as Shiner now feature a picture of a goat on Bock Beer labels as a visual pun. Shiner Light Blonde is a 99-calorie, pale, light, handcrafted beer. Ruby Redbird is brewed with Texas Rio Red Grapefruit and a hint of ginger for a refreshing summery taste. Heife Weizen (“half wheat” in German) is evocative of Old World Munich Malt, incorporating wheat grist, found in only one percent of brews worldwide. Orange and lemon zest, clover honey and yeast provide unique flavors.

Reserve 101 is located in Houston's EaDo neighborhood (East Downtown) at the corner of Caroline and Dallas, across from House of Blues and near the Toyota Center.
