TUTHILLTOWN HUDSON WHISKEYS COMPLIMENTARY TASTING MAY 31 AT RESERVE 101
Wednesday, 25 May 2011 10:05

New York’s First Legally Distilled Whiskey Since Prohibition

Before Prohibition, over 1,000 small farmers produced liquor from New York grain and fruits. Tuthilltown Spirits revived the tradition in 2001, and downtown Houston bar Reserve 101 will offer a complimentary tasting of four of its handcrafted New York whiskeys May 31 at 6:30 p.m.

The tasting will feature Hudson Baby Bourbon, Four Grain Bourbon, Manhattan Rye and New York Corn Whiskey. Register for the complimentary event at http://reserve101.com/whiskey-tastings-houston.

“Our mission is to introduce customers to unique whiskey experiences, and the Tuthilltown Tasting really fits the bill,” says Reserve 101 co-owner and whiskey expert Mike Raymond. “These are small-batch whiskeys made from grain produced by local farmers, reviving an art not seen since Prohibition.”

The Tuthilltown Gristmill, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, used waterpower to grind grain to flour for 220 years. In 2001, the property was acquired by Ralph Erenzo and Vicki Morgan, who with the help of partner Brian Lee converted one of the mill granaries to a micro-distillery. The facility uses fresh produce from small farmers located within a 10-mile radius.

Reserve 101 is located downtown at the corner of Caroline and Dallas, across from House of Blues. The establishment, billed as “not your daddy’s whiskey bar,” offers the best collection of premium whiskey in the region, stocking over 170 varieties. Infusions—organic materials steeped in liquor to impart unique flavors—are a Reserve 101 specialty, along with Martinis, Signature Cocktails, beer, wine and other liquors.

“Happy Hour,” with dollar-off beers and wines and half-price signature cocktails runs from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday with specials just about every day of the week, including Sundays.
